Balkan Research Journal

The Balkan Research Journal (BRJ) invites submissions on an ongoing basis. BRJ is a peer-reviewed interdisciplinary scholarly journal dedicated to advancing rigorous research on the Balkan region.  

The journal provides a forum for original theoretical, empirical, and comparative studies that examine the historical, social, political, economic, and cultural dynamics shaping the Balkans in both regional and global contexts.

Scope of the Journal

The Balkan Research Journal publishes peer-reviewed scholarly research in the following areas:

  • History and area studies of the Balkan region

  • Political systems, governance, and public policy in the Balkans

  • International relations, geopolitics, and regional cooperation

  • Economic development, growth, inequality, and structural change

  • Sociology, social policy, and demographic dynamics

  • Anthropology, ethnography, and qualitative studies of Balkan societies

  • Culture, heritage, identity, and memory studies

  • Migration, diaspora, and transnational processes

Submission Policy

  • Submissions are accepted on an ongoing basis.

  • All manuscripts must be original, unpublished, and not under consideration elsewhere.

  • Manuscripts must be prepared in accordance with the journal’s Instructions for Authors and formatted using the official Article Template.

  • All submissions undergo a double-blind peer review process.

Publication Scheduling 

Accepted manuscripts are scheduled for publication in the next available regular issue, following the completion of the peer review, revision, and copyediting processes.
Publication order is generally determined by the date of submission, subject to editorial planning and thematic issues.
